LARGE Antique 19th C. American Folk Art Woolwork Building Flag Pole AAFA Woolie
This listing is for the large 19th century American folk art woolwork pictured above. A wonderful, large, and rare example of American woolwork. This woolwork depicts an institutional building, perhaps a school, with red roofs and multiple entry points. In the foreground are manicured gardens and lawns, which house a large flag pole with an American flag flying high. Atop the building, at near equal height to the flag, sits an arrow-shaped weathervane. This work was crafted in meticulous detail in a charming primitive style. The symmetry of the building and contrasting red roofs further add to the overall appeal and quality of the image. This work comes from the renowned collection of American illustrator Charles Santore and his wife Olenka. The second to last photo in this listing shows where this work hung in their home. The work is housed in an antique frame behind glass. 20 inches tall by 32 inches wide (artwork). 21.5 inches tall by 33 inches wide (frame). Charles and Olenka Santore Collection. Condition : Good overall condition. Some sun fading and pulls/small losses to the wool throughout. Typical scratches and losses to the frame. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed! I frequently receive messages from people after I sell an item, asking if it is definitely gone. Feel free to ask any questions.
